Smarterchild mini-comic and upcoming shows!

No comic in this post, but lots of exciting news and links:

1. SmarterChild was resurrected yesterday!

In printed form.

Last night Danielle Dillon and I sewed and glued the pieces of each copy together while laughing maniacally, just like Dr. Frankenstein. Now these monster babies just need readers to give ‘em the spark of life…

**~~~cue Reading Rainbow theme~~~**

…and hasten armageddon.

2. Speaking of the end of the world, you can buy one of my babies tomorrow at “If It’s Not Over, A Collection of Work Created In The Year 2012,” the Barnard Visual Arts concentrators senior thesis show.  Here’s the poster I made for it (with all the details):

3. I’ll also be exhibiting work at MoCCa Fest this weekend with the collective Coffeespoons Comics. We just came out with our music issue, which includes my Blink 182 story from a while back and brilliant work by Sally Cantirino, Kate Drwecka, Stephanie Mannheim, and Li-Or Zaltzman.

3. On May 5 and 6, we’re also exhibiting at TCAF (Toronto Comic Arts Festival) in, well, Toronto. Because I love greyhound bus rides. That. Much.

4. On May 14, I graduate.  And then I move back to New Jersey to live with my parents, singing this song. Forever.

5. For those who are concerned: I’m dressed as Phoebe in that photo. I didn’t get punched in the eyes.

Smarterchild # 11: The End!

This is the last strip in the Smarterchild series! I’m going to miss drawing these guys every day. In about a week, I’ll have finished printing this series as a mini-comic, a volume in every way superior to the Internet version because it’s on nice paper with a nice cover with about 13 additional pages of drawings  (nevermind – didn’t have enough time or money), and best of all… it’s not free! It’s seven dollars.  So I will make money! If you buy it. Mwahaha.

Also, this post means I just finished my senior thesis, guys.  Enjoy!

Smarterchild #8 + Phoebe’s Mix!

Lesson of the day: If you’re going to use your toothbrush to paint stars, don’t use white, because by 4 am it will look just like dried up Toms of Maine, and then you will have so many regrets.

Also, Phoebe made a mix for ya’ll last night, because she had nothing better to do.  The songs probably won’t show up in the right order, so here’s the tracklist:

1. “Minor Place” – Bonnie “Prince” Billy  2. “Desert Island” – The Magnetic Fields   3. “Little Brown-Haired Girl” -  Frankie Rose and the Outs   4.  “After Hours” – The Velvet Underground    5. “Don’t Mix The Colors” – Beat Happening    6. “In My Room” – Best Coast   7. “Outer Space” – The Muffs  8. “Space Manatee” – Heavenly   9. “Crazy Rhythms” – The Feelies 10. “She” – Green Day  11. “Disorder” – Joy Division   12. “The Other Side” -Galaxie 500  13. “Worlds of Possibility” – The Pastels

Berlin sketches

Finally got around to scanning these.  Kinda wish I drew things that actually characterize Berlin, but I can’t sit still enough for architecture.

$$$$$ketchbook

I’m going to Berlin with my art thesis class for the week to consume copious amounts of beer and Haribo gummies (and culture)! Unfortunately, this means I won’t have the new Smarterchild strip up until I get back. In the meantime, here are some pages from my sketchbook, some very half-assedly colored.

P.S.: Last summer, I helped my hero Gabrielle Bell color some of her new comic book The Voyeurs (in stores this August! Buy it!).  She gave me an awesome shout out in the press release.

“BREAKING: Obama to Speak at Barnard’s Commencement” response

This is my illustrated response to the 600+ hateful comments published on the Columbia student blog the other day. And one more check off my college bucket list.
